I must say that I had a pretty good Thanksgiving weekend. We arrived in Tulare, CA after a 10-hour drive on Wednesday. Tulare is halfway between Bakersfield and Fresno, and the air smells like shit. But that aside, it's kinda cute. I saw my aunt and 4 out of 5 cousins... plus met baby Emily and saw other children who were 4 years younger the last time I saw them. The youngest cousin is getting married in a few weeks, so we met his fiancee too. All in all, it was quality family time interspersed with lots of yummy holiday food.

The one disappointment was not getting to travel north to meet up with Suzi or see my friend Hilary. It was raining pretty hard and I was worried about having to drive back late at night in fog and/or rain. So I stayed in Tulare and went to Hailey's bridal shower instead. It worked out just fine, and I'll get to see Suzi later this week and Hilary over Christmas.

Today I made banana bread with the bananas we left here to rot. The house smells delicious! I also played some Christmas carols on the piano and watched tv and went for a walk. I'm starting to feel a little Christmas-spirit-y, but maybe wrapping presents would help. I suppose I should make a list... I don't know what to buy for people! Well, I have to go pick up my mom from work in a bit. Have a good Monday!

Oh, and happy birthday, Gretchen!

I am currently at the Scottsdale Public Library, using one of their 15-minutes-only internet computer. I have 8 minutes remaining. So... I haven't been doing a whole lot at home. On Sunday, I baked an apple pie. So American, I know.

Tomorrow we leave for California. Pray that there won't be fog for us on the roads.

7 minutes remaining.

I went to an info session yesterday about the MSW program at Arizona State. It was boring. The things that would be different about going to ASU versus the other places I'm applying: 1) I think the student population would be more diverse, both ethnic and age-wise. But I could be wrong about that. 2) It would be significantly cheaper. 3) I'd see my family much more. 4) I would never be cold or rain-soaked. 5) I don't think I'd get to focus on my interests as much because the student body is larger and the faculty probably has less time.
That's all I can think of right now.

4 minutes remaining.

Alright, I'm going to go find a comfy chair and read a book. Not sure which one yet... I brought Clan of the Cave Bear (which I checked out yesterday) and The Good Book, by Peter Gomes. We'll see.

3 minutes remaining.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!

George and I just finished watching Walking Tall, starring The Rock and Johnny Knoxville. Let me just tell you how AWESOME it was! If you've ever dreamed of knocking the living daylights out of someone with a block of cedar, this is the movie for you. Or if you've ever dreamed of a world where drugs and corruption could be eliminated with some well-placed punches, this is the movie for you. Or if you ever imagined yourself shooting at bad guys wearing nothing but a bra. Or if you've ever thought about taking an enemy's vehicle apart piece by piece. Or if you just like the idea of saying bad-ass lines like, "This is MY town." Yes, my friends, this is the movie for you.

A pet peeve...

When someone in a car in front of you drops a cigarette from the window. I always think there's some kind of mini-explosion happening on the highway in front of me and it freaks me out.

Today I interacted with two very lively, very cute lab puppies. They got some mud on my jeans, but I forgive them because gosh darn it, they were cute. Also I don't have to clean up their mud tracks.

Total incongruity.

This morning, Nelly performed his Nanananana song on The View. You know, the talk show where five women sit around a table jabbering... I imagine they attract an audience made up largely of middle-aged stay-at-home moms (notice my avoidance of the word "housewives"). NELLY. On THE VIEW. Does anyone else agree that this classifies as total incongruity?
