I went to Bed Bath & Beyond today to get one of those folding chairs so I could sit outside in our courtyard and read. My only choice was between a Mizzou chair ($14.99) and a Rams chair ($19.99). To find out which one I picked, come by and find me reading sometime.

Also, I must send a special thank you to the teenaged BB&B-worker who allowed me to combine two coupons on my purchase. Mentioning this added savings probably gives away which chair I picked, but so be it.

It's so great to be a twenty-something and still be amused by little kid antics. Tonight I laughed at Steve and George as they head-butted the dining room table, the walls, and each other with their bike helmets on. Steve, by the way, also made me think of Duck Tales because his helmet has a visor that makes him look a little like a duck. It really doesn't get better than that.

P.S. Happy "Fall Begins" day!

I feel that a new post is in order. I just got back from my volleyball team's attempt at the championship. We couldn't quite pull it off, but it was still a great time. Plus, I made a slurpee run with British John and Stu in between games. It'd been ages since I'd had a slurpee. The best thing to do is mix cherry and coke flavors.

I've decided that I really would like to start getting up earlier and live up to my inner morning-person potential, but this means I need to start going to bed earlier. It really shouldn't be too hard... I just lose track of time somehow and find myself up later than I would like to be. Ah well. Such is life.

Today I ran some errands and attempted to clean up my room a bit. Laundry is a good start, right? Tomorrow I may have my act together enough to get some real work done.

Stranded for the past two days in Ashland, KY... other than that, a fine end to my trip and I am safely home. More later, as I am quite tired.

As I was driving today... from Bridgeport, CT to Washington, D.C., I had a realization. I am not a big-city kind of girl. I think this goes hand-in-hand with my realization of a couple weeks ago that I like the Midwest. Not to say there's not a "Southwest" identity, because I'm sure I have some of that too. But I don't know that I would do well to live in a place where I was always an aggressive driver, always factoring in extra time for traffic, and always being surrounded by bright lights and loud noises. This could just be tiredness talking, but there you have it.

After a number of wrong turns, I have arrived in Boston. I was only honked at once! Hopefully I'll be able to arrange an interview or two for this evening and then tomorrow it's off to Connecticut. Which is definitely in the running for the state hardest to spell. That pesky silent C. Anyway... a nap may be in order right now.

P.S. Happy birthday, HopeMastr!

A Northeasterly Update

Well, it would appear I have been gone from St. Louis for a week now. It's gone fast, but I know I'll be glad to return in two more. So what have I been up to over the past week? Let's see...

-Naturally, I have done surprisingly little "work." I haven't conducted many interviews, but I feel good about the ones I have done.

-I've met some fantastic people who have opened their homes to me, talked with me about their life and work, and asked me about mine.

-I enjoyed beautiful scenery most of the way here. Oh by the way, I'm in Hanover, New Hampshire right now. So as I was driving through Ohio, I thought to myself, "I really like the Midwest." This is a big thing for me because I don't remember EVER having that thought before. But geez, it really is so green and open. Then I arrived in Cincinnati and it was almost oppressively humid, which made me rethink the whole business.

-I watched the Diamondbacks win a game against the Reds. The DBacks winning any game is excitement enough for me.

-Yesterday, I drove through northern New Hampshire, heard the story of of a changing small town, and admired the excessive greenery.

-Tomorrow I'm going to Maine. I'm hoping for at least one moose sighting.

-I'm learning a lot about how I'm going to accomplish the work I've given myself to do this year. If you're curious, ask me about it when I get home and I might be able to articulate some of it for you.

In a nutshell, life is good, New Hampshire is beautiful, but I'm thankful beyond words for wireless internet and cell phone coverage. Take care, everyone.
