Going to the symphony has got to be one of the most glorious experiences in the city. Last night, an amazing pianist performed an amazing work and the symphony sounded beautiful. I love that feeling of being so overcome by the beauty and harmony of music that I actually get goosebumps. It also makes me glad I've started taking piano this semester. I had forgotten how important music is to me and how much playing relieves stress. And it doesn't even matter that I'm not very good because I love it regardless.

I also love my roommates. They're so fun... and funny. They are the ones responsible for my now-daily use of the word "dude." They also refer to any eating or shopping establishment on the South 40 as "Bear Place."

Hopie and I had great Greek food tonight. How can life get better than good friends and flaming cheese?

I had a great day! I woke up much earlier than I wanted to, but it was ok because I got to gradually wake up and I finished watching Any Given Sunday. It's a football movie, so I'm not entirely sure why I rented it (oh yeah, it was from the library so it was free), but it was pretty good. Then I had lunch with Gretchen at Cafe Manhattan and practiced piano and went to class (I asked a question too!) and came home and went to volleyball (we won!) and went to SALT (we won!) and got my senior sweatshirt from Hopie (we won!) and now I'm home. Alright, that's the end of my day, I promise.

Oh, so the other day George, Steve, and I went "apartment shopping," by which I mean we drove around and looked at buildings. We realized that none of us actually know how to shop for apartments. So I think I'm just going to call some different places tomorrow or early next week and see what's out there and get an idea of prices, etc. Any other suggestions? We're looking for a 3-bedroom, not-too-expensive, non-mugging-neighborhood kind of place.

Enough for today. Thanks to you because if you're reading this, you add something special to my life and I am so grateful for you. Sleep tight.

ash wednesday

"Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."

I registered for the GRE today and the guy asked for my middle initial. I said "Y." He said, "I just need to get this demographic information." But here's the kicker: I didn't get it! It was a joke and I didn't get it. So I think he felt bad and thought he should explain it to me. I told him I was a little slow today. Man, I think I just reduced my GRE score by about 100 points.
I was channel-flipping tonight (because that's what I do with a lot of my time now) and came across a FOX "reality" show called "The Littlest Groom." Have any of you seen this? I think there's some sort of distinction between watching strangers try to marry each other because it's entertaining and watching strangers try to marry each other because they're little people. I don't know precisely what disturbed me about the whole thing, but it was disturbing. Little women and big-size women competing for the littlest groom... what's next? People who actually date before they decide to get married?

This evening I went to visit my Uncle Joe's friends who are being philanthropic and dancing the night away at Dance Marathon. I walked into the AC right behind a couple of Rams cheerleaders. They were wearing a lot of makeup. The event looked pretty exciting, although there didn't seem to be a whole lot of dancing going on.

Tomorrow is George Washington's birthday. I wonder how old he would be turning. Shouldn't we have some sort of celebration to mark the occasion, since he is the namesake of our university? Yes, Laurie! We should! Let's all skip class on Monday (those of you who have class on Monday) and drink cherry wine, if there is such a thing.

Blues game!!!

Here is a random sampling of conversation from the game:

Katy: What's going on?
Laurie: They fell down.

Katy: What's high-sticking?
Laurie: I think it's when they... [insert made-up definition].
[Katy gives Laurie weird look.]
Laurie: Do you want me to ask Lesley?
Katy: Yes.

Katy: Did you ever watch Cheers? [Insert story about Carla's husband saving a penguin from the zamboni.]

Lesley: [Insert any hockey rule] means that they aren't allowed to do ____.
Katy and/or Laurie: That's a dumb rule.

I'm trying to make the font smaller. Did it work?

I am in a foul mood. But here are some reasons I've found for why I shouldn't be:
-It's sunny today and not frigidly cold.
-I picked up Justin from the airport, suggesting that I may be a nice person.
-Leftover ice cream cake.
-I'm wearing my favorite sweatshirt.
-Florida!!! --a mere 17 days away.

I think I may have maxed out on what I can learn about operating a blog. So yesterday was Valentine's Day... or was it? Ok, yes it was. BUT! It was also ARIZONA STATEHOOD DAY. That's right, Arizona became a state on February 14, 1912. So who cares about romantic love when there's state pride?
In other "news," I've been feeling a little off lately. I think it has something to do with being a senior and having a huge number of my friends moving away in 3 1/2 months, but I'm more distracted and anxious than usual. Whatever the reason, I hope I start feeling more like myself again soon.
One more random piece of information for the two people who might read this. My mom called me the other night and told me she joined a dating service. Strange? Maybe a little. But not really surprising... she's been talking about it for a while. I really am cool with it. It could be good for her. I hope I sounded supportive on the phone. Anyway, I thought I'd share before I decide whether or not to tell her about my newfound friend, blog.

Wow! I can't believe I have a blog now. It's so... trendy. Thanks for creating it, Katy. But be patient, it might take me a long time to figure out how to use it!
